Avalonian pilgrimage
Saturday was a truly magical day walking the precincts of the Holy Island with Mark Nemglan as our guide. We saw the sacred landscape with new eyes, making pilgrimage from Edmund Hill to Gog and Magog and onwards to the inner sanctum. A peal of thunder marked our summit of the Tor, yet by some miracle the rain held off until we were headed back to town. Waters were collected from the White and Red Springs, time spent in quiet reflection at Chalice Well entranced by the music of the rain falling and the intense perfume of the flowers. And so many conversations, stories shared, friendships deepened, a deep appreciation of life, the land that holds us and our fellow travellers. Our special thanks to those who made the pilgrimage, braving the heavy shadow of the weather forecast, to Gareth and Steve at Courtyard Books who hosted our gathering, to David Harland for capturing these moments for posterity, to author Mark Nemglan who generously shared his long engagement with the sacred landscape of Avalon, his vision of a magic both powerfully transformative and life affirming, and the spirits and guardians of place for granting us this special day.
