Join Peter Mark Adams in conversation with Scarlet Imprint for the online launch of the new edition of The Game of Saturn: Decoding the Sola-Busca Tarocchi.

We will explore the reception of The Game of Saturn nine years after its radical thesis was first revealed, and how it transforms conventional wisdom about the Renaissance elite’s self-fashioning. Discussion will cover the persistence of the archaic notion of the ruler’s two bodies, and the figure of the ruler as magus and daemonic more-than-human presence. Adams will further address how an animist worldview transforms visual culture and our interpretive lens, advocating an art-historical approach that evolves tarot history through iconological, iconographic and ethnographic perspectives.

Further topics include the antinomian aesthetic, miniaturisation and its talismanic and ritual efficacy, the inauguration of an esoteric tarot, the introduction of an elite cult of Saturn, an in-depth examination of the Sola-Busca itself, the Watchers and the elite, historiography and eschatology.
