We are looking forward to giving a joint presentation on Babalon, time and eschatology at the Occulture Esoteric Conference in Berlin. The organisers describe OCCULTURE as “a gathering of magical beings, consisting of two days and three nights of lectures, workshops, rituals, and divination for practitioners, researchers and anyone interested in the open-minded, critical pursuit of illumination and the exploration of esoteric mysteries.” It looks to be a very interesting and diverse event; more information on the facebook event page and website. Tickets are on sale now.
MY TIME is come: An erotic eschatology of Babalon – Peter Grey & Alkistis Dimech
In this presentation we will explore the nature of time in relation to the goddess of revelation, Babalon, with a focus on what we term her ‘erotic eschatology.’
Beginning with an inquiry into the thanaterotic aspects of the goddesses Inanna-Ishtar, we trace the evolution of this current to the Revelation of John of Patmos and to the alchemic angelic visions of Edward Kelley and John Dee. A critical examination of the Thelemic interpretation of Babalon, and the ideas of Jack Parsons, whose Liber 49 claims to complete The Book of the Law with the voice of Babalon, concludes the first part.
In the second part we discuss our engagement with this sacred history; how, in devotion, ritual and performance, linear and cyclical time intertwines and allow a temporal incarnation of the divine. Finally, we speculate on the manifestation(s) of Babalon in these uncertain times, her presence and her coming.
