Bound in white, stamped in red with the seven pointed star of Babalon. All copies were bound with a red silk ribbon perfumed with rose, wrapped in tissue with rose petals from the altar and  sealed with red wax stamped with the star of Babalon.

All author copies enclosed the eye of a peacock feather, and all commerce copies concealed a plumule between the leaves.

An expansion of the essay in Howlings, the material was later expanded further and published in a second edition by Fulgur. This first edition was issued twice, the first printing being largely withdrawn after binding faults were found in many copies; books belonging to the first run are identifiable by numbering in black ink, those of the second being numbered in navy ink.
